Waterway under McNab Road Bridge closed for 10 days
Boats are blocked under McNab, and the new skatepark's daily hours are set to start today.
The waterway beneath the McNab Road Bridge is closed to all navigation for 10 days, beginning Wednesday, July 22. This is a complete closure of the navigational channel, covering all vessels for the full 10-day window, so anyone who normally transits under McNab needs an alternate route until it lifts. The restriction is in place for construction safety while crews carry out bridge demolition and reconstruction. That work involves heavy equipment operating at the bridge, removal of material, and structural work on the crossing itself, all of it directly above the water where boats would otherwise pass. The work is part of the McNab Road Streetscape and Bridge Replacement Project, funded through the G.O. Pompano bond that voters approved in 2018. The rebuilt crossing is intended to improve safety and resilience, expand pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure at the bridge, and increase bridge clearances. Skatepark's daily hours start Thursday
Regular daily hours at the city's new skatepark at 1701 NE 8th Street are scheduled to begin Thursday, July 23, running 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. A ribbon cutting was scheduled for July 22, followed by a Public Open Skate from 2 to 10 p.m. that same day. The park was designed by New Line Skateparks, with local input shaping the design. It combines street features with transition terrain, and the layout is built to serve skateboarders, bikes, scooters and inline skaters rather than a single user group. A custom Pompano fish feature is part of the park. With a schedule that opens at 8 a.m. and runs until 10 p.m., the park is set to be available in the early morning and after dark seven days a week. Bianca Rosarrio headlines the Living Room Concert Series tonight
The Living Room Concert Series runs Thursday, July 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Hive Black Box Theater, and admission is $10. Bianca Rosarrio is the featured performer for the July date, with a set drawing on jazz, blues, soul and classic standards. She has toured in more than 17 countries. The series is a monthly one, landing on the fourth Thursday of each month at the same venue, so the July 23 concert follows that standing pattern and the two-hour window ends at 9 p.m. (Pompano Beach Arts)
Carried Home opens Friday at BaCA
Carried Home opens at BaCA on Friday, July 24, and stays on view through Sept. 12, giving it a run of roughly seven weeks. The Luke Jenkins exhibition is built from reclaimed termite-marked wood along with carved wood, ceramics and paper. Build, Break, Bridge opens Friday at BaCA
Build, Break, Bridge opens at BaCA on Friday, July 24, and remains on view through Sept. 19, an eight-week run. The exhibition is curated by Luna Goldberg and gathers a decade of work in reclaimed and reshaped wood, made using CNC carving, thermal modification, joinery, sandblasting and termite interventions.
