Suffolk will build the new City Hall and garage
Plus a Tuesday cost meeting, a September 10 job fair, and a free September 21 session at the Larkins center.
The City Hall build has a contractor, two businesses are joining Mayla Pompano, and Roy Rogers Park work has changed a Water Taxi stop.
The new downtown has a builder. Suffolk was picked to build the new City Hall and the parking garage beside it. This moves the project closer to the start of work.
The City, the CRA, RocaPoint Partners and Suffolk have already held two job fairs. They covered hiring and purchasing. They also explained bid packages, trade screening and other ways to work on the project.
Those details matter to local crews and small firms that want to compete before the build begins. Suffolk also plans a networking event for those groups. A date has not been set.
The City Hall and garage are part of the Downtown Master Development Project. The City Commission and CRA will discuss costs tied to that project next week.
Venture X and Calaveras Cantina sign at Mayla Pompano
Priddy Spaces signed a 10-year lease for about 20,000 square feet at Mayla Pompano. It plans a Venture X coworking hub with 85 private offices, four meeting rooms and shared work space. The opening is expected in early 2027.
Calaveras Cantina is also coming to the project with indoor and outdoor dining.
The CRA's free CHOICES Job & Community Resource Fair runs Thursday, September 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the E. Pat Larkins Community Center, 520 NW Third Street. No registration is required. Attendees are asked to dress for work and bring copies of their résumé.
City and CRA meet Tuesday on downtown costs
The City Commission and the Community Redevelopment Agency meet together Tuesday, September 8 at 9:00 a.m. The special session is in the Commission Chambers at 100 West Atlantic Boulevard.
The meeting has one stated purpose. Members will discuss costs tied to the Downtown Master Development Project. That narrow agenda gives residents and downtown firms a clear place to hear the cost talk.
The session comes as Suffolk starts its role as builder for the new City Hall and parking garage. The regular City Commission meeting follows at 1:00 p.m. the same day.
What is sitting in the city review pipeline
A fresh batch of projects is moving through city review. The Development Review Committee has four on its list. They are the Juan Elias apartment building, a five-unit apartment building, LMG Warehouse at 1160 SW 10th Avenue and Citi Centre.
The design committee has its own list. It includes the Pompano Beach Marine Center, 1241-1251 N. Dixie Highway, 4891 N. Federal Highway and Modera.
None of these projects is approved. Each filing can change, stall or return in a new form. Housing, warehouse space and a marine center are all in the queue at once.

The free session runs Monday, September 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the E. Pat Larkins Community Center, 520 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Light bites from local vendors are planned, and an RSVP is preferred.
Roy Rogers Park work reroutes the Water Taxi
Crews at Roy Rogers Park are building a new seawall cap, an improved promenade and rebuilt public docks. The waterfront project near Wahoo Bay is expected to finish in January 2027.
The work brings a direct change for Water Taxi riders. The boat will not stop at P11 in Roy Rogers Park during construction. Riders can use nearby stop P7 at Dockswell Dock, 145 N. Riverside Drive, instead. The park page will carry updates as access shifts during the job.
