Free Narcan now stocked at 17 spots across the city
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue and The Robin Foundation have launched Overdose Emergency Cabinets at 17 locations across the city, each stocked with free Narcan — the medication that rapidly reverses opioid overdoses — plus step-by-step instructions so bystanders can act before first responders arrive. The secure, highly visible stations sit alongside AEDs in public locations throughout the city, an approach that treats overdoses as the time-sensitive medical emergencies they are. "Every second matters during an overdose emergency," Fire Chief Pete McGinnis said. The program is fully funded through opioid settlement money paid by manufacturers and distributors, and Florida's Good Samaritan Act protects bystanders who step in to help during an overdose. The Robin Foundation's Narcan distribution work logged 14 confirmed life-saving reversals in 2023, and the city says it plans to keep expanding public access to overdose response resources.
